During our weekly panel discussion and workshop series for Engaging Artist Residency, the Director of Outreach at the Bowery Mission, James Macklin described what he has learned from the people, “No one wants you to solve their problems, they just want you to listen. If you listen long enough, they will solve their problems themselves.”

Wise and inspiring words. Thank you, James!

Previously on June 19th:  Keynote talk: “Art, Activism & Organizational Form” by Todd Lester of Free Dimensional, spoke about being a “culture worker” and the politics of professionalism in the mutli-disciplinary field as a result of the international shift in funding. Lester shared his discoveries, concerns and ideas about linking the Human Rights SEctor with Artist Sectors.

Lester’s talk was followed by a workshop on Art Therapy:

Learn about the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits of art therapy and participate in an activity.

-Speakers: Martha Dorn ( Executive Director of the Art Therapy Outreach Center) and Karen Gibbons (Art Therapist and Independent Health and Wellness Professional)
